Tools of the Trade by sandrodcpereira Tools of the Trade by sandrodcpereira
Another remake, this time of the old Tools of the Trade.

One thing that I hated about that one was the perspective, which came out completely wrong. This time around, I actually used a 3D model so it'd be perfect.

Most of the work on this one was on Cinema 4D, with some post work on Photoshop. Hope you like it.

Changed the wall texture, it looks much better now. ;)

Stock textures by ~fanaticartsstock and *jaqx-textures.

This piece is ace, the simplicity of the design and good colour scheme is boss. Topped off the texture is pretty sweet.

I love this one... you don't know how many times I made spray cans when I was doing 3D and got distracted with "work" and never did anything with them...

Even if I did it wouldn't have come out this good... fwiw I like the old version too. Nicely done. Must :+fav:!

Thank you very much. :D

I have a lot of 3D models laying around that I haven't used either! This one got done because I had an idea to begin with.

I really like the old version too, the only thing that bugged me was the perspective that was kinda off, so I had to revisit it.

this makes me wanna start messing with 3D again... I had an old project I never got around to doing but when I get a break I might try it now. May have to hit you up for a few tips... I'm sure I'm a little rusty. ;P

Oh, boy. Surprisingly late reply tiem! :noes:

Feel free to give me a call if you need any help on your 3D endeavors, I'll gladly share my limited knowledge. =P

I took a long break from 3D modeling, but have revisited it in the last month. It's so different from digital painting. What bothers me the most is not having something to show after a day of work. It's all just a bunch of polygons before you get to complete the damn model! :shakefist:

I still like it a lot, it's just not instantaneous and expressive as painting. It's more of a exercise in patience and perfectionism. :D

I love playing around, setting up a scene and rendering the model. That's my favorite part. Too bad it only comes after days of work. =P

i like the industrial feel. its good to see you havent fallen into the trap of the cliched paint drips and splatter for this, the clean feel is very good. would like to see a little texture in the black areas but im just being picky. thanks for using my texture, your deviaiton will be featured in my journal soon...

Thank you very much for taking a look. :)

I tried to give the black areas a more textured feel, but it always seemed to ruin the contrast balance, so I left it like this.

Thanks for the future feature. ;)

this is mad looks so nice, you use cinema 4d? i thought it was ridiculously hard to use, i think you can get degrees in it?

I did. =P

I don't really use Cinema 4D for modeling. This one was pretty much based on basic shapes, cylinders and tori ( now that's a nice word) so I did.

I love C4D's rendering, though. You can do pretty nice stuff even if you don't know much about the program.

Thank you very much for the comment and favorite! :highfive:

hey man fantastic work, though one thing is that the texture of the desert doesn't really go with the cans, maybe if it was concrete or brick it would work better :).

Yeah, I know. I had some trouble finding a good texture, so I ended up using the first decent one that came up. Silly me.

I'll try to change that as soon as I can. I'm considering creating a new texture from scratch. Gotta see how that turns out.

Thanks for the comment! :highfive:

yeap
though i believe the "problem" is that the cans are too good for a graffiti
maybe a little blur is my thought

fav it is anyway, also for old times sake :D
cheers!

I see what you mean.
The first one probably worked better because of the lack of detail and crappy perspective. :giggle:

I wanted to blur the "graffiti" more to make it blend better with the texture, but it would lose a lot of detail. The picture you're seeing was actually pretty blurred out, so you can guess the how much the "unblurred" one was unrealistically sharp.

I guess this could be considered graphic design adapted to a graffiti-esque style, rather than an actual graffiti.

Thanks for the favorite and the comment, and sorry for the big ass reply. :D
